Luis Enrique Martínez García, popularly known as Luis Enrique or Lucho, is a retired footballer who now works as a professional football Manager. He is currently serving as the Head Coach of the Spanish National Team.
He began his professional football career in the 1989-1990 season with Sporting Gijón B. In the same year, he was promoted to the senior team, Sporting Gijón, where he played 45 matches and scored 17 goals in the La Liga. Later on, he joined Real Madrid, one of the leading Spanish clubs, in 1991. He spent 5 years with Real Madrid, playing 213 matches and scoring 18 goals.
Enrique stands among the rare individuals who transitioned directly from Real Madrid to FC Barcelona. He joined FC Barcelona during the 1996-1997 season and achieved legendary status during his 8-year tenure, scoring 109 goals in 300 matches.
