In the same year, he was promoted to the senior team, Sporting Gijón, where he played 45 matches and scored 17 goals in the La Liga. Later on, he joined Real Madrid, one of the leading Spanish clubs, in 1991. He spent 5 years with Real Madrid, playing 213 matches and scoring 18 goals.
